ELLING: VISIT THE SHIPYARD AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

ELLING: VISIT THE SHIPYARD AND SURROUNDINGS

The water is omnipresent and you see boats and yachts everywhere!

When visiting the Elling Shipyard in Aalst don’t forget to spend some lovely time in the beautiful surroundings.

Must see:

1) Heusden

A little town with a lot of beautiful history! And lovely restaurants and shops (your wife will be delighted...)

See the one minute movie (or the longer version of 7 minutes) on Heusden:

‘Over Heusden’

2) And a second absolutely mustsee (unforgettable!) is to visit the ‘Slot Loevestein’:

Choose the English (or German) version in the menu.

Located in the municipality of Poederoijen

Loevestein is the most famous castle in the Netherlands. It dates back to 1361 (!) and was built on a strategic place where the rivers Maas and Waal converged: the perfect place to collect tolls.

The state prison period with Hugo de Groot and his escape (!) in a bookcase (!) is famous in Holland. You can learn more when you visit the ‘Explore Loevestein’ in the website. Enjoy!

The best way to see and feel all these historical moments is a visit when you are at the Elling Shipyard. The castle is only 10 miles away and sits in wonderful surroundings.

When you visit the Elling Shipyard Anton van den Bos and his team will be glad to show you around.

People literally live on the water and dykes prevent the river to flood the 'polders'

Lovely old farmhouses all over; this one from 1781

With a lovely garden (Winter picture)

Thatched roofs: lightweight, environmentally friendly and lovely to see...

This little beauty is one year older and now (2019) nearing 240 years of age...

Monumental trees.

A younger brother or sister. Nearing 170 years of age!

But also novice buildings enjoy the view of the river and the yachts....

Friendly people everywhere (see the WELCOME sign)

And just around the corner of the Elling Shipyard: HEINEKEN Beer; worldwide renowned.
